I downloaded the Map editor for Vietcong and upon trying to install it get an error stating that it does not see a valid vietcong installation. When I purchased a new system 7-yrs ago I simply copied the Vietcong Program folder to the new system and started playing the game. I did not re-install it. I have since lost original install Cd's and was hoping that there is a work around that will let me install the map editor/creator so I can develop my own maps. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated. DR. GIGGLEZ HEADHUNTERS CLAN =USA=.
Same as for the game, you don't have to install the editor, just put dev from this archive into your Vietcong directory: dev.zip (merge if asked)
Start by dev\engine\editor.exe (or dev_editor.exe).
Many thanks Brchi! I have the editor running. Now I will have to learn how to use it to create a new map and/or edit an existing one. Is there any manual or instructions available with this tool that I can download? Your attention to this request is appreciated. DR^Gigglez HEADHUNTERS CLAN ::]HC[:: =USA=
When I go to help in the editor there is no information to be queried? Am i missing something in the install package that Brchi sent me. I've attached the screen shot of what this looks like when i open the editor and click on help. Thanks, DR^Gigglez.
Try this...
Go in your dev folder > editor and > find the pteroengineii.chm file. Double click on it and you should see the same informations as you had opened "the help" directly from the Editor...
I tried doing as you suggested by opening the "pteroengineii" file. It opened up the help feature and i was able to see the items available in the index, however, there is no information for these index items appearing when I query a specific item. All I get is an empty area in the form with the message: "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" "Try retyping the address". Do you have any idea why it is not accessing the information correctly? Also, doesn't the editor link somehow to the map file or file which contain the map code? How could I modify an existing map if it does not? Seems like there is something not linking to the correct files, folders, or something is missing in the DEV files that the editor program should have access to? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, DR^GIGGLEZ.
Go to properties of the .chm file and click "Unblock".
Not sure what you mean with your other issue. To edit an existing map, unpack the .dat file (it's actually a cbf too) and put the subfolder of LEVELS\ into Vietcong\levels\ dir, then open the .sco. However, the .cbf may also contain some game data besides the map thumb and game mode definitions, I'm not really sure where to put it. Also, you may have to "Rebuild TexDB" if textures appear white.

I don't know what's happening but it seems something is not working as it should in your installation...
In the picture you posted above, is it the only "windows" of the Editor you can see?
If yes, something is wrong for sure. It's like if the Editor wasn't completely installed and functional...
My DEV Folder is about 20MB in size and about 133 files. Does this seem correct? I have no way of verifying the Zip files that Brchi sent me to be able to know if I have all the required data files for a complete install. Obviously, I was not able to do a normal install as a result of the error stating that it could not find a valid vietcong installed on my system when I in fact have the complete program folder and play the game on demand. This is how Brchi was helping me to go around that error. And yes the above tool bar and screen is all I get when I execute "dev_editor.exe". Please advise. Thanks, DR^GIGGLEZ.
It contains all files from the original installation, I also use it myself without problems, you for sure don't need an installation. You see only the toolbar and editor panel? No "Ptero-Engine-II : Editor" window? What are your "Ptero-Engine-II Setup" settings when starting up the editor?
I could have a look via Teamviewer if you want.
What about extended desctop? Do you have second display connected to PC (TV on HDMI port for example)? Sometimes it can happen that the main window is on the other display... Always happened to me with TS, when I connected TV to my PC, TS3 window was opened on TV desctop.
I remember that something like taht happened to me randmly when i opened the editor. minimize all windows and opening editor again brought back all panels of the editor.
Guys! I had the same problem when I plugged my laptop back into my second display and started editor and it only came up with panels, I tried fixing but nothing was working...
OK! Deleting that CFG/wpos_editor.dat file got the Ptero-EngineII running!! I will now try and learn how to access maps, create, etc. by studying the "HELP" feature and using this forum. I'm sure I will have questions forth-coming. Thank you for your patience and co-operation and thanks to all the others for your help and suggestions. DR^GIGGLEZ
I have been using the map editor and noticed that the language when accessing the editor database tab to acquire add-ons i.e ladders, etc. it has only part english descriptions. Is this the way the items were named or is there an English translation of these items available? Thanks for any help on this matter. DR^ GiggLez.
If I'm not wrong, descriptions are partly in english because the Editor was used for and by Pterodon's guys only... It's only later "they" decided to give it to the community (public) but of course with most of the texts still in cz...
I think some made a translation in the past but it was in french. I don't remember to have seen an english translation but I guess one should exist...
