Hello All,
I have been away from map making a few years, trying my hand at coop maps. I have a few questions:
#1. If I start the AI in a under-ground bunker, will they follow waypoints up a ladder and come out to play?
#2. I have a working IFL of lightning, is there a script to make it move back and forth across the sky so it doesn't strike in the same place, and how to set that up?
#3. I am working with 3dmax7 on windows7, I can not get texture blending to work. I put the main texture in diffuse #1, TDD_FADE in diffuse #2 multitexture, and the other texture in diffuse #3 overlay. I can only get either diffuse 1 or diffuse 3 to appear on the object, and only if I use channel 1 for the texture. "S" works to assign the texture, but "A" and "T" remain grayed out. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? Is it the version of 3dmax7 I am using?
Sorry but I can only reply to your first question...
#1. Normally, yes. The AIs will follow the waypoints and will use the ladder to go out of your under ground bunker. But be sure to give them the wish "high enough" (with the scripts) to come attack the human players or they may prefer to stay inside.
#3. If you can't find the solution of your problem, another option could be to make that blending in Photoshop by creating another "new " texture (?)...
Thanks for the input, I plan on making bunker as shallow as possible, and I assume by giving them the wish you are referring to battle mode?
I have been blending textures with photoshop, but worried about the increased poly count doing it that way.
#1. By giving them "the wish", I'm not only talking about the battle mode because you can also "play" with the boldness and berserk values as wel...
It's something very difficult to determine because many "aspects" can act on a bot's behaviour and only the tests will show you the values to use.
Have a look on this post for more informations.
#3. I don't know the "structure" of your map but normally, using "blending textures" shouldn't have an impact on your poly count... I'm pretty sure you can have the same number of "polygones" by using them as wel.
Again, it's not easy to determine (because it will depend of the power of each pc) but in Vietcong, I would say you will lose 1 fps for 1000 polygones used (more or less).
I had already seen that post, I only understand the very basics of coding, but I can add the lines to the script. I will experiment with it and see what I come up with. Just want it to be a challenge to beat.
As far as the textures go, I kept the bunkers I had made and started over with the terrain, will use the photoshop method of blending textures. I thought 3dmax would blend textures. Will keep researching for info, but not a lot left out there for working with Vietcong.
