I can't believe it...
Some people here are giving "lessons" to everybody but they should first learn what politeness is!!!
You (whoever you are) don't have to insult people to express your opinion(s)!
Yo guys,
i did all what you guys told me. but didn't work.
So i solved the problem with saving the direct connections to the server.
I will try to solve the problem from hosts file in second moment.
thx to all
Kurtz, to check the correct configuration, please open a command line (by pressing Win key + R, typing cmd and hitting enter), type ping master.gamespy.com, enter, and watch the output. If 65.112.87.186 is being repeated there, it's ok. (Then the possible solution is unknown for me.)
If it's not there, you can try manual configuration as described here: http://vietcong1..../faq#hosts. You may have to disable your antivirus for a while, or maybe your main drive isn't C:?
Hi, I tried different ways to connect and found out the easiest is to download that "hosts" file, It's very simple and works well. For those not wanting to read through this whole thread, just do this:
So, Gamespy is really down now. I added the IPs to the hosts file it's working great! Thank all of you for helping out.
However, around half of the old VC user base is gone. I guess they weren't clever enough to read one of those messages posted everywhere and figure out how to fix the server problem themself. But that also means there are only smart people playing Vietcong anymore, right
And some of the old server are still not listed [Archi!!!: Where is Black Pajama Homi!?]
sorry guys, but this is a bad solution, modify a "Win32" data, most of the players don´t want to waste that much time and it´s too complicated and showing just only old servers, it´s not connected with gamespy, it´s a bad solution. The easiest way is to shown here an IP Table list of all servers, and for the future this will be the future. All closed games are running here !!! I am waiting a few days until Vietcong 1,6 is running there. And everybody can host and play !!!! This is the best platform for games, don´t know a better one.
Another problem is that Vietcong 2 is already running with Gameranger, but my Norten Antivirus don´t accept Vietcong 2.exe (Virus) bla bla, have anyone heard about Vietcong 2 and Norten problems ???
If someone host Vietcong 2 with gameranger, let me know, I will join
RiskyDingo, the Run button creates a runnable .bat file which you can use for connecting to a server. So after downloading it, just run it. But it's actually not needed if you update your hosts file, see http://vietcong1.... or read through this topic.
SniperSpider, from you've posted so far, it seems GameRanger is very similar to Qtracker. There's just a difference that Qtracker is proven to be working and it actually supports the in-game server list (when using modified hosts file). Actually, unless GameRanger is to fetch data from Qtracker, there will be no servers available at GameRanger.
It is true that the service provided by Qtracker works perfectly, however I noticed that the usual about 70 servers, we passed less than 50, at the moment such as active 42.
What can be the reason for this dramatic decline of servers online??
The Server (whether dedicated or temporarily created) must be up and running or it will not appear on the Qtracker list. When I take our server down it is not on the list.
It should be noted, however, that "Dedicated" (Remote/Offsite) servers not registered with Qtracker may no longer be on the list since Ron Mercer (Qtracker) was getting the list from Gamespy.
If he was able to save any Dedicated (Remote/Offsite) Server IP's, etc. that were not registered they may still appear on the list once the server is restarted as long as the IP address hasn't changed. I am not sure whether he was able to save any servers this way.
A temporary Server, one created on your personal computer, will not appear on Qtracker unless the "hosts" file has been modified to point to Qtracker. I modified my "hosts" file on my computer so I could get an "In-Game" Server List (compliments of Kangeruh's research and successful work in getting Qtracker and Ron Mercer to Host Vietcong), so it was already pointing to Qtracker when I created a temporary #2 HEADHUNTER server that immediately appeared on the Qtracker Server List.
Another problem is that Vietcong 2 is already running with Gameranger, but my Norten Antivirus don´t accept Vietcong 2.exe (Virus) bla bla, have anyone heard about Vietcong 2 and Norten problems ???
You have your * Vietcong2.exe * Add to the Ausnhamen Norton AntiVirus, the bleats particularly like.
Solution > If you aufmachst Norton, top to Settings, then management settings, then configure program exceptions.
If you're using the web-based server listing from the Qtracker site which was previously updated every 5 minutes, there is a new URL that queries the database directly so you will get the most recent listing of servers available whenever you load the page. Only active servers are returned in the listing:
Also, I just noticed that I am receiving heartbeats for the Vietcong Demo. I was not setup for that, but I am as of just a few minutes ago. You will see the demo servers mixed in with retail on the web-based server listing, however in-game you will only get demo servers or retail servers depending on which version you're running.
I currently have 73 Vietcong servers in the database, however only 50 of them are marked as active. If the 23 inactive servers are actually running, I'd like to figure out why I cannot query them. An example server from today is: 78.35.114.23:15425

It´s not really like Qtracker. That Gameranger has an own serverlist.
With Qtracker you can just only join over IP and shown just only available servers from supported games.
It takes a few days until Vietcong.exe and dedicated is running there in Gameranger, I´m sure that all will join there.
Vietcong 2 is running in Gameranger, please join there I see a server there
As I understand, the only thing you should do, to get list of servers back inside the game is to add 65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS.
Maybe it would be good to add information about how to connect to the servers to the main page of the site, so it would be easier to find this information.
Here are some solutions I have found:
http://www.qtracker.com/master-gamespy-hostfile.php
http://vietcong1.eu/en/game/
http://30min.mmhost.eu/advance.php
It is sad that because of ending the Gamespy service there are almost no players on Vietcong servers.
