Hi, I just want to let you all know what's going on with the Community Hub!
Luckily, the serverlist is still working, and to be honest, I started to relax because of that from the beginning of June, but also because the last ~10 days before 31st May I worked until early morning, slept not well and felt sick soon.
So I needed some time for myself and to rebalance.
I've also come up against some difficulties because it's all really new for me (the database, network and sync stuff) but it's looking good now and I almost feel highly motivated again!
Thanks for the update. I think most of us relaxed as that deadline came and went, however, it's reassuring to know that you are still committed to the game and that there will be a workable solution when they do decide to pull the plug.
Since today (25 July 2014), GAMESPY server has stopped !!!
NOW IT'S DONE.
You cannot see any server in the game if you don't do anything : SOLUTION EXIST AND WORKING FOR ALL WINDOWS plattform (WinXp, Win7, Win8, ...)
Ok, so I'll use this opportunity to advertise Vietcong1.eu once again. This web-based server list (http://vietcong1....) still works, because it simply fetches IPs and ports of game servers from Qtracker as well. Regular users can go without changing their hosts file just by downloading runnable .bat files by clicking the Run button for each server they'd like to visit. However, servers' owners have to change the hosts file, for more information see the FAQ section (http://vietcong1....).

I started my own server (Server Italia) with dynamic ip and surprisingly find it in the list of servers in the site vietcong1.cz while it is not visible on the other hand with Qtracker
It is well known that displays many more servers Qtracker how is it possible?
My question is which method uses this site to collect data from the servers online?
This might be useful to see all the server and connect using the method of vietcong.tk?
-> you still see the server-list
-> Next to each server, there's a "Run"-button. Click it to join the server.
* info: 'clicking the run-button' does 2 things:
1. It places a bat-file on your desktop
2. It automatically loads the game and brings you to the server.
5. Save this *hosts* Datei
You will see a security prompt asking for Administrator permission to modify the file, click continue to overwrite the File.
6. Test Vietcong Serverlist and Have Fun and Play!!!
Admin Problems Windows 7 and Datei copy/edit....easy Way:
Click the file with the right mouse button > Properties > Security.
Click on your name under Group or user names and Klick Button Edit ( Bearbeiten )in the lower field you see then whether you have full access, unless there ticks accept purely and on.

Or make Simple Way with File overwrite:
1. Open Ordner > C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
2. Downloads this File KLICK > http://www.qtrack...id=197,293 when with winrar entpack this File and copy in Ordner *ETC* and Overwrite the *hosts* Datei.

For people making server : Don't think that if you are starting a server, you'll see him immediatly after running .. because Qtracker need pooling.
So he need a time (5 mn ? 1 hour?) to find your server.
Make a server while a complete day and you'll see he will be in the INTERNET list like all.
Before with Gamespy it was immediatly, now, just need to wait for a while before see server in the list.
Don't use QtUplink software (to inform Qtracker that your server exist) because Vietcong is not supported by this. http://www.qtrack...ion=0,2,12

And please, stop saying to people they need to modify a file because it's too much complicated for some of them to find file + open + edit + save .. etc is just too much.
Inform them they just need to download and copy/paste file (file is already edited, ready to use) with admin right eventually... NOTHING MUCH

For Brchi : You should making a new version with VCSTARTER including copy/paste this file in the good directory.
Like that, PB will be fixed from the installer already !!!!
And stop talking about DirectConnect method because I know by experience that player cannot type a correct IP and PORT in the game because they are not able to find . and : symbol on their keyboard !!! (trust me)

Because I making few server for this game every days since 2005 and helped lot of player for everything, I know that some thing could be easy for me (like for you) is something like reading chinese for other people.
I don't think to "my friends" only, but for the majority of player, are between 10yo to 60yo.
Think to people in this moment are searching with google "how to see server in vietcong game multiplayer"
Like you should think for all player cannot understand english too.
Then if you could help all people in English, German, Italian, French, Slovak and Czech, it will be more usefull for Vietcong community than helping "your friend" only.
Ondrej and Paola : How many time the website with list of server will be online ??
Run batch working only for 1.60, not 1.01
Then stop talking about IP adress, Server, Port number, Website to find serverlist, batch file to run VC .. etc .. if ONLY COPY/PASTE FILE is ENOUGH.
Just for your information, there no batch file solution for player using 1.01 version .. Do u know it ?
The only EASY solution for VC 1.01, 1.60 on WinXP, Win7,Win8 etc in all language easy to understand is Download, Unzip and Copy/Paste this hosts file into the good directory.

Thanks all for the discussion and the concern. Boggy is right that the easiest solution is the best, but not so right in thinking that unzipping is the easiest one. Here comes even easier solution (thanks Plissken for the idea): download http://vietcong1....racker.bat, run it as an administrator (if needed) and you're done! It changes the hosts file automatically for you.
Boggy, I believe Kangeruh was refering to you by that word friend.
Paolo, didn't you run your server as non-dedicated? I noticed a bit weird behavior of Qtracker in the past with non-dedicated servers. They had to change map to get noticed. I've contacted the author of Qtracker and will try to solve this issue.
I think Boggy is right, the simplest thing would be to put the hosts file in the download section, and put the instructions in different languages.
All other batch file type I believe solutions serve only to create unnecessary confusion to the players.
Although the managed servers by not updating Qtracker real-time new servers created by individual players, this I think is one of the limitations to be resolved as soon as possible, I believe it is not a big problem only a minimum of effort. ... We hope someone listens.
For my part I can contribute by providing instructions in Italian.
However, you must create a special section that is immediately visible on Google when you search for VC servers list

No no, that shouldn't be an issue, "dynamic IP" means only the way your ISP sets your IP. Please check http://www.qtrack...etcong.txt, if your IP appears there (probably at the bottom), after running a server. You can check your IP here: http://whatismyip....
It might take 5 minutes for Qtracker to notice your server, a bit uncomfortable, I know.

Do you really think that downloading a batch file (with an IP added in your batch file could be outdated at any moment bcoz could change at any time) from a website (could close at any time) and say "do all that with admin right" (just talking about right admin to a noob with informatic and you lost 99% people) is the way more ... easy ??? just let me laughing
The link I sent come from QTRACKER (not from my website), QTRACKER is the only one website allow to inform everybody how to find all VC server, without need change anything in the game (install patch, or anything cracking a file, or install anything else...)
And it working for VC 1.01 like 1.60.
Don't forget that 100% player discovering this game are downloading the game from internet by P2P or else and then start to play on 1.01 version before know that some patches exist...Then if you want keep this game alive, think to the "potential" new player coming.
Then continu to write some alternative solution (with batch will be out of date in few month , from a website closed in few month, with more complicated things to do) and everybody will be lost with 100 differents solutions.
I copied host file and everything is working again.

Boggy, it's surely good that you're so agitated and trying to keep VC alive, but it wouldn't do you no harm to understand what's really going on when giving advices. Or maybe I'm mistaken and...
... you really studied https://en.wikipe...%28file%29 and understand that the hosts file contains fixed IPs for domain names.
... you know that C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts is a system file and you need to have admin rights to change its content, no matter if by copying/editing/letting a script change it.
... you understand some players might have problem accessing the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc path.
... although not very probable, you're aware that the hosts file, being a system configuration file, can be already customized and by replacing it you lose the previous configuration.
Actually, running the script file http://vietcong1....racker.bat consists of just those steps you would have to do when unzipping that provided hosts file, nothing more, but not of all of them, and is making the process easier.
Ron from Qtracker is a very helpful guy, maybe he will create his own script. So I suppose our tasks are:
- me - talk to Ron about the script,
- you - change the text color to something readable.
