I downloaded the QTRACKER Software that Silent BOB had previously mentioned that he used whenever the GAMESPY Master servers were down and it does list all of the VC servers including our Clan's server "HEADHUNTERS" in that software.
My question to Silent Bob (or anyone else who might know the answer) is how are they obtaining the VC server IP's/ports in their list if they were never registered?
Look at the Qtracker page if there is someone logged in to the admin could post again, have to, as far as I read he has a homemade master list of games.
We have good programmers and people would support this admin and maybe he is ready Vietcong in the master list of rider.
There are very good opportunities there.
Kangeruh, Dim (btw. I hope we'll play Coop soon again ), Nosek, thank you very much.
Right now I had a debugging session with Nosek on his server, and I can happily inform that the bug has been resolved. Actually it wasn't about VCStarter at all, but about running from non-standard disk (D:, E:...). Now the path is being changed in a proper way and it works even with VCStarter and the Czech version of VC.
Concerning Qtracker: I believe there's no other way for them to retrieve data than to fetch it from the GameSpy's master list. The same as for everyone else. When there's no GameSpy, new servers won't be noticed by Qtracker. Vietcong1.tk offers two solutions for this problem: the registration page (http://vietcong1....) and own heart-beat service. If owners of game servers add one line to their hosts config file, their servers will be registered automatically when they start (already mentioned in this topic). Information about how this works will be published when the time comes.
OndraG, this was the best idea !!!!!!! Another Games do the same way. Maybe we need this script here on Vietcong.info page, too !!! with autoconnect button !! but on first startpage !!!! wazz with the .bat data ?? I don´t know how to handle it. For the players just only start and play is the best.
Thanks, sniperspider! Well, the thing with .bat files is that you don't have to know how to handle them, Windows does this for you. You just save them and then run them by double-clicking.
The server list is already framed on this website – here: http://www.vietco...?page_id=4, but it was problematic for me as well to find it under the Navigation menu. (The last item there, the left part of the screen.) Another problem is that it seems to be accessible only by logged on users. Could you fix it please, Bob?
I have written to Qtracker ( Admin Ron Mercer ) and receive a message on the same day:
----
I no longer have a copy of the game, I'll see if I can find a copy somewhere. As soon as I installed the game I'll have a better idea of how difficult it will be to support this game.
-----
I mean a good news, will continue to report if what's new.
Fingers crossed ..

There are reasons for showing that page only to registered users
This is a bad idea, the servers must be listened for everyone, without registration and so on.
For me it was difficult to register here, 10 times it don´t works, and then questions which don´t work, for example 10+2=xx 12, don´t work and so on and so on.
It must be a one klick joining nothing more and list for all people, or the circle will be smaller and smaller.
Evgen, you can change the path and the selection of the Fist Alpha add-on anytime under the Settings tab (accessible from the menu as the third item). Or just click here: http://vietcong1....
Here is the last state of things and it looks very good:

First of grooses praise for your support, here the Vcstarter 1.51, unpack everything in your Vietcong folder and overwrite.
Link1 VCStarter 1.5.1 or Link2 VCStarter 1.5.1
You can Start the VCStarter.Config.exe...To change any path and other things, than OK and Start Vietcong.exe

Thank you, that resolved my issue. Vietcong works now, and my Master server supports it.
You need to edit your host file to point master.gamespy.com to my new master server. This will accept heartbeats from the game servers, and process in-game server browser list requests.
Code: Select all
65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com
If you have the ability, you may wish to edit the Vietcong.exe to make this change as well. master2.qtracker.com=65.112.87.186

Now Brchi's turn to change this if necessary!!! If this ma integrated into the Vietcong.exe, it could work: D

Is the master server hard coded in the exe/dll's or is it loaded from a cbf/dat?
Has Ron Mercer (QTracker) replicated the GameSpy Master Server exactly? Including its encryption?
Been out of the loop for a few years.. What are the limitations with exploiting the automated HradBa 'patch' or map 'patch' method?
Propagate the server list artificially through the LAN? Decentralised P2P? Reliance on a single server is the flaw in this architecture, there needs to be a higher degree of redundancy - particularly moving forward (i.e. can we place reliance on the alternative system for the next 5 years?).
What do VC Players need to do right now?
1. Tell every VC player you come across that the server list is going offline and to visit: http://vietcong.info for more information.
2. Add servers to your favourites list in-game.
3. If you run a server, ensure your server is listed on the web-based server browser here: http://vietcong1.tk
4. Download and install GameRanger and QTracker (these may not be fully functional when GS goes offline - but it is worth a shot).
5. Brchi is kindly working on a fix. Check this topic daily for any updates.
Every computer has a file called a "hosts" file that allows you to override where server names like www.qtracker.com actually go to. The file looks and works the same way on nearly every operating system, however it's location may vary as well as the permissions required to edit this file.
On Linux/Unix systems you will find the hosts file in: /etc
The full pathname is: /etc/hosts
On Windows systems you will find the hosts file in: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
The full pathname is: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS
Please note Windows can be installed on different drive letters and the WINDOWS folder may be named something other than WINDOWS. This is not typical, however.
If you are leasing a server from a hosting company, you may not have permission to modify this file in which case contact your hosting company so they can make the required changes.
The following additions need to be made to the end of the hosts file. These lines will go after anything that already exists in the file, and take care not to edit any existing lines in the file.
You can download a Windows hosts file that has already been edited here >>http://www.qtrack...id=197,293
After downloading, open the zip archive and copy the hosts file to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC. You will see a security prompt asking for administrator permission to modify the file, click continue to overwrite the file, although it's a good idea to back up the existing file first.

Thanks for the clarification and examples regarding the "HOST" file modifications and also for your work on helping to keep Vietcong alive!
I was looking for the host file in the Vietcong directory and could not locate it! I also questioned Ron Mercer in the forum for this same information recently and was waiting on a reply from him. Again, thanks.
On a side note I have also asked him how I can register our server into the QTRACKER database as the up-link to register it was not working. Do you know if he is saving the Vietcong servers in his database from the Gamespy master server query that he is using currently to provide his list, or will these all have to be registered independently into QTRACKER? I also gave him our IP address and server name that he could use to register it for me if all else fails.
