I've made another update for VCStarter. It includes a Direct3D 8 to 9 converter and drops HradBa support (who's using this anymore anyways?).
More and more reports about bad performance, and yesterday I found out that on newer hardware Direct3D 8 causes bad performance while 9 doesn't (thanks to @Gskill for teamviewer session/testing).
So this may be a fix for performance issues, but it's not a guarantee.
Also be sure to configure the graphics driver well (disable vertical synchronization (vsync), "Use application settings" or similar for antialiasing etc.).
UPDATE
// CHANGES v1.5.1
- Option "Force player name ..." changed to "Fix resetting of player name/gamemode filter" and really works now
- Added requireAdministrator-manifest to vietcong.exe (Forces the game to start with admin rights)
Download: VCStarter v1.5.1
Just put all files into vietcong directory, replacing any previous ones.
If done correctly, you will see "> VCStarter v1.5.1" in games main menu instead of "v1.6".
// CHANGES v1.5
- Integrated Direct3D 8 to 9 converter (Always active, fixes low FPS on newer hardware, tested on AMD HD7xxx series)
- Removed HradBa support (VCStarter doesn't work on HradBa servers anymore!)
(Also separated .dll from .exe so antivirus programs don't complain)
VCStarter v1.5 also fixes compatibility with nVidia Optimus technology (I know at least 3 other people who are facing the same problem). Now I have much better performance with nVidia GPU active. And glitched textures are GONE!
I just tried Halong-V1.9. There are some places where FPS drops to really low values.
With Intel HD 3000 active I have around 16 FPS on these places but with nVidia GPU active I have around 28 FPS.
I am new here. I have installed vietcong purple Haze on Windows 7. I installed also the VCstarter 151, but to fix the crashes and even start te game I need also another patch. Could anyone tell me which one I have to instal?
(In another Tread I read, in order to fix the game, you had to install VCstarter 1.4.1 first and then instal the patch 1.60)
I only play single player (not multi)
I play the game in highest resolution, no problems with start. But it's crashes on several locations. first mission while driving in the jeep or in the second mission while fighting in the jungle.
I first installed patch 1.60 Then installed VCstarter 4.1 I stil crashes.

After installing the retail game, Fist Alpha, 1.6 Patch, Red Dawn and VCStarter 1.5.1, Red Dawn can no longer be started with the desktop link and also disappears ingame from the custom game list. The game itself and Fist Alpha are still playable. This doesn't happen when using VCS 1.4.1.
What happens when you use the desktop link?
Where does it point? "...vietcong.exe -addon reddawn"?
Which files are in the game directory in addons\reddawn\?
I've already uninstalled the game, so I no longer can tell you about the content of the Red Dawn folder. If I find the time, I'll reinstall the game.
The desktop link still pointed at ""...vietcong.exe -addon reddawn", but double-clicking it simply started the main game.
