Imagine there is a game....
Bierkes
hmhm....

Personally i am not a big fan of cars/tanks/helicopters etc....

Let the game just be like VC1. Men and their weapons.

Make totally new maps. Not upgraded versions of the existing maps.
Le tthe gameplay be quite the same as VC1. Like movements, shooting, aim, aimlezz etc.

I think you could reach 100.000 votes. But only in the way you mentioned. Putting a big spam with this info @ all different webpages.

And then the question would i pay 60 euro for it? Depense how i will like the demo. But if it's good, i would buy it right away. And not after 0.5/1year. Cause then i would get owned by every player that is playing the game since it's releaseWink

Ofcourse it should support vista/win7 and the upcomming new windows version. But i think it would also be good if it still supports win xp, since their are still quite a lot players with a low end pc, or players that just prefer xp(family pc's)

The grafics should also be boosted... But i think the best thing is that the minimum specs would fit a grafic card like nvidia 9500gt. Since that's still a quite decent card, where you can still play almost every game at.

So to be short:
- Totally new maps
- Grafic Boost.
- No single player, multiplayer only( would drop the price of the game)
- Should support xp and higher.
- Quite the same gameplay as VC1. As it's very likeable with many players.
- A very good anti cheat, that is updated weekly.

Well as Silent Bob said : No vehicles, only men and their guns, nades, knives, maps, boobies(booby traps)med kit, ammo kit etc.
nice ideas bierkes and i agree only multiplayer.
it must prefer xp bcoz many ppl are still on xp...
Let the gameplay be quite the same as VC1. Like movements, shooting, aim, aimlezz etc.

IF and that's a BIG IF there's ever a chance for the game, then it would have the following:

- Support for DirectX 10/11, there's no chance in hell that it would support DX9, MS will end support for Windows XP in 2014
- Vehicles, urban environments, those are popular. Jungle? Probably not.
- Probably sold only online in Steam/GamersGate etc.

100.000 x 60= 6.000.000 Euros, first of all 60 euros for a PC game is too much, but if it's 45 euros then we have 45 x 100.000 = 4.500.000 and I'm pretty sure that it would cost about that much to make the game. So would there be profit in it for 2K Games? Nope, they'd be better off with Civ 6, Bioshock 3, Mafia III and so on...

The only chance for "VC3" is if someone makes it as a mod for some game. I tried to start such a project but NOBODY was interested in working on it, so for me VC is dead as a Dodo.

Don i understand what are u saying...yeah it can be urban as i said urban warfare in Hue city and it must have some jungles. From the name of the game already a person sees that is about jungle....there would be profit....profit to make new Mafia III.....or whatever they own...and support for xp and higher....in 2014 ppl will get vista/7 and the game would keep on running.
IF the project will start IF it will start.

i read that you tested 3 different engines, right?
do you can give any suggestion, which engine you would prefer and would you work on "VC3" if there are somebody is intersted, to start work on it?

Overall the best is Source/HL2, there's a lot of stuff available for it and it's the most popular mod platfrom. CryEngine would be very nice for the jungle environments, but it doesn't support AI in multiplayer and coop is such an important part of VC, the older engine from FarCry has more hope, there's a coop mod for it (still work in progress), but this is already an old engine...

I've entertained myself with the idea of tinkering with something, but I don't have the time nor interest for it.

No, you don't understand. If Vietcong had been such a huge seller in the first place we wouldn't be having this conversation, would we? We'd be happily playing Vietcong 4. Why would a game with the title "Vietcong 3" suddenly sell millions? Maybe if it was called "Call of Duty: Vietcong"... Grin

and support for xp and higher....in 2014 ppl will get vista/7 and the game would keep on running.

No, they're getting it NOW. In 2014 they're getting Windows 9 or whatever.

The mod would need a lot of work and it would probably take at least 2-3 years to make, the number of assets alone that need to be created is HUGE and then there's the coding, balancing and testing...

There's been some progress made for Crysis multiplayer AI, it's probably worth investigating.

Someone on this thread mentioned modding VC1... even further. Well, I think the original engine can be pushed further than it has... so far.

I don't have the modding abilities that some of you guys here have... but I have seen some fantastic modding stuff. Just recently I have seen modifications that I didn't even think were possible! Some of you guys may already be aware of some of this... I wasn't!

The original Ptero engine STILL has life in it and it appears that it is also possible to create new scripts for it that actually WORK!

We could be seeing some nice stuff hit the forums over the next year. Those that are as addicted to the game as I am will most definitely be around to see it!

Thank you to all those people who have modded this game over the years. I get as excited about new maps to play as I did 6 years ago... when I first discovered this game!

Oh... and to all those faces I recognise... so this is where you mo fo's have been hiding! HELLO!

For my part, I am not really waiting for VC3.
I only hope that the mod In Country Vietnam for Red Orchestra 2 will come early after the release of RO2... and will be fun (also better than the mod VTE - Vietnam The Experience for ArmA).

Has anyone considered the Unity Game Engine?

How does Unity stack up against the Crysis/Far Cry game engines you have mentioned?

The Unity Game Engine (trial version) is free and there are lots of stuff to add into your game ... at least, lots of stuff for First Person Shooter Games.

I am not a coder so really am just seeking general comments here.

... and nice to see everyone in here. Vietcong is the best!

Unity is a very good engine for the price ($1500), but it's just a game engine. It's easier to mod a game that already have a bunch of assets that you can use than create everything from scratch (every model, texture, animation and actual game mechanics etc.).

I like the Unreal Engine 3 2011 . It´s almost like the Cryengine 2. Is that a possibility?

UDK is pretty good, but I don't know how good it's with lot's of foliage which is important in a Vietnam game.
