Hey guys last week I tried to burn a cd but it failed because of drivers and I think it has blocked my Vietcong nocd exe. I have run dxdiag and windows memory diagnostic. No error. I have reinstalled everything to a new folder and can run Vietcong, but when I try to switch to Fist Alpha it still crashes.

Hi,
I'm not sure to understand correctly...
Do you mean Vietcong and Fist Alpha are both installed but when you try to start Fist Alpha from Vietcong "in game", the game is crashing?
If it's the case, my first advise is to install "the great" VCStarter 1.70 BETA because it will fix many bugs, like the one you explained...
My second advise is to create 2 different shortcuts, one for Vietcong and one for Fist Alpha. I found it was easier, faster and safest to use that method instead...
Yes only Fist alpha is crashing.
I was hoping someone here could read the Pterodon error codes.
I am afraid I have done more harm now because I install from Red Dawn official cd's, and they install v1.60 NOT v1.61.
Its is all a big headache for me now, I will keep trying, to figure out how to reinstall from cd without v1.60.
And yes I am using a shortcut with addon Fist Alpha tag. And vc starter says invalid game.
How to install Vietcong and patch it?
Installation depends on whether your VC and FA disks came from Purple Haze or were bought separately.
* If you have Purple Haze (includes both Vietcong and Fist Alpha),
o Install Vietcong
o Install Fist Alpha
o Install Patch v1.60
o You may reverse the order of Fist Alpha and patch v1.60, the order does not make a difference
* If you bought Vietcong and Fist Alpha separately (i.e. disks did NOT come from Purple Haze)
o US: v1.01 --> v1.30 --> v1.41 --> Fist Alpha --> v1.60
o Europe: v1.30 --> v1.41 --> Fist Alpha --> v1.60
o Australia: v1.30 --> v1.41 --> Fist Alpha --> v1.60
o Japan: v1.41 --> Fist Alpha --> v1.60
o You may reverse the order of Fist Alpha and patch v1.60, the order does not make a difference
Tricks for installing / reinstalling:
# When you must reinstall Vietcong you can locate the Maps somewhere else on your hard disk or make a copy. After installing put the Maps back to Vietcong.
This safes your a lot of time.
# Another trick is your Control settings, make a copy from Vietcong/Cfg/Preset00.ctr or your xxx.ctr saved file.
# make also a copy of Vietcong/user/mp_bindkeys.txt and set it back after the fresh installation. So you don't have type your bind keys again.
# Your short cut FA extension on your desktop:
(yourvietcongfolderietcong.exe -addon fistalpha
Hey guys thanks for your help.
Just posting more that may help myself and others. I am sorry I have forgotten a lot of this software's issues; I had been playing from the same folder since 2011 with minimal problems.
On my last reinstall from CD I that was crashing I have
101.cbf
130.cbf
140.cbf
150.cbf
160.cbf
from my Purple Haze US CD
I was playing from a fresh install but playing coop online it was making me download maps I already have!
So now I am playing from a direct download version with VC starter included, it works great but only problem is weapons choices are limited. This may be a registry issue?
I have not tried this,
I had to reinstall windows and the driver was pre installed by the retailer.but I will say, it is an LG Burner, and they have bundled their drivers with some third party bullshit, and LG says get the driver from the third party, and now the third party has fucked off... I may request a driver be mailed to me by the computer retailer who pre installed the driver, but honestly if I feel the need to burn a disc I may just pull another burner out of an old PC laying around.
